Sandra J. Horning, MD, is Professor of Medicine (Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation) at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Horning earned her medical degree at the University of Iowa after which she completed internal medicine training at the University of Rochester. She completed a Medical Oncology fellowship at Stanford University and subsequently joined the faculty. At Stanford, Dr. Horning has served as a University Fellow, a School of Medicine Senator and a University Faculty Senator as well as being a member of numerous committees. She is Chairman of the Lymphoma Committee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) and Principal Investigator for phase II and III clinical trials in Hodgkin's disease and lymphoma.
Dr. Horning is active in, a number of professional societies including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, where she is a member of the Board of Directors and serves on the Education and the Publication committees. She lectures nationally and internationally and serves in an advisory capacity for several international conferences. An advocate of new drug development, Dr. Horning has served on the Oncology Drug Advisory Board for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and currently serves in an advisory capacity to a number of pharmaceutical corporations. Dr. Horning currently serves on the Editorial Boards of Clinical Cancer Research and the American Journal of Medicine. She reviews original articles for multiple journals. She is the author or co-author of numerous book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles, reviews and editorials.
Her research interests include novel therapies for Hodgkin's disease and lymphoma including high dose therapy and transplantation, clinicopathologic correlative studies, post-transplantation lymphoproliferative disorders and complications of therapy.
